So You Like Obamacare… (by cloudylissa)
This is an off-the-cuff personal response to some hatemail I received following blog posts explaining my position on Obamacare. While some have pointed out a few positives about this bill, the negatives FAR outweigh any positives to be had. Bottom line: This was written with false logic to serve corporate ends. If the government can compel you to buy this, what else can it make you buy?
More info I found on the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act:
1. Healthcare and insurance are NOT the same thing. Can you get new tires or an oil change with your car insurance? No.
2. The individual mandate excise tax is not exactly “affordable” by any definition of the word.
3. The employer mandate tax isn’t affordable either. Any company with over 50 employees could pay fines of up to $2,000 per employee for not implementing Obamacare.
4. Guess who receives the proceeds from this tax? A lot of it goes to the insurance companies.
5. Estimates reveal an average $1200 increase in healthcare premiums for the average American family in the year following enactment.
6. Don’t forget the 13% premium increase in 2016 if you buy your own insurance.
7. Health insurance companies practically wrote the thing in backroom deals with the White House. What company do you know wants to make less money? Where is the “affordable” incentive here?
8. Americans will be less able to direct their own healthcare decisions.
9. This will “red tape” the doctor-patient relationship.
10. By limiting healthcare options, life expectancy will likely go down.
11. Yes, there are actually are “death panels” oh, sorry, er, “government review boards” in Obamacare.
12. Can you say “doctor shortage”?
13. Yep, you WILL have to wait longer to see a doctor. Check out Romneycare for more on that.
14. In fact, Obamacare curbs incentives to become a doctor in the first place.
15. Life-saving drugs will cost ya, but life-ending drugs are free.
16. Don’t like abortion? Too bad, you’ll pay for it anyway.
17. No more “child only” policies.
18. Ever heard of “healthcare rationing?” You have now.
19. Say goodbye to your privacy re: your medical records being accessible only to medical professionals.
20. That info is going into a giant electronic government database, just so you know.
21. Insurance companies can gain access your medical information and, doubtless, will use to it hike your rates.
22. This is basically a big pharma government monopoly.
23. Did you know Obamacare can mandate “interventions” on clinically obese people?
24. Obamacare has already canceled dozens of doctor-owned hospitals and does not allow for more.
25. Over a million Americans at risk for losing insurance under Obamacare in the first year.
26. Did I mention it is cheaper for many employers to pay Obamacare fines than offer insurance? Many likely will.
27. But don’t worry, companies like McDonalds get a waiver.
28. What are waivers based on? Nobody, including the Government Accountability Office that released a waiver accountability report claiming lack of a clear definition on how exactly Obamacare waivers are handed out.
29. The IRS will hire approximately 4,000 new IRS agents to enforce Obamacare.
30. So the IRS gets an extra $500 million.
31. Oh sure, America can totally afford all of this. We aren’t nearly $16 trillion in debt or anything.
32. Also, who here loves government expansion? This does it. Big time.
33. Who wouldn’t trust a bill Nancy Pelosi said our representatives would have to pass it so they could know what was in it?
34. Increased Medicaid enrollment due to Obamacare: 24 million by 2015.
35. P.S. — That increase does not come with much-needed Medicaid structural reforms, just a shuffle of more people into the system.
36. Insurance rates are expected to double by 2019.
37. Say goodbye to over-the-counter med purchases w/ pre-tax flex/health accounts.
38. You will, however, get a healthcare flexible spending account cap.
39. It adds strict limits on medical itemized deduction.
40. It comes complete with a health savings account withdrawal penalty.
41. No more free market based on supply and demand, only rising prices.
42. Resources will not be able to keep up with demand, just watch.
43. Obamacare basically opens the door to single-payer government system run by a DMV-style bureaucracy. Sounds fun, right?
44. And now, even more taxes: excise tax on comprehensive health insurance plans.
45. Excise tax on charitable hospitals.
46. Tax on innovator drug companies.
47. Tax on medical device manufacturers.
48. Blue Cross/Blue Shield tax hike.
49. New surtax on investment income.
50. Medicare payroll tax increase.
51. High medical bills tax.
52. Seriously guys, the amount of new taxes in this baby is ridiculous because I haven’t even listed half of them.
53. Remember how the government lied and told people the most they would ever pay into Social Security was three cents on the dollar when that program started?
Do you really believe the government is telling you the truth now?
